Description
On December 7, 1971, Emil Matalik (hereinafter petitioner) was charged in Douglas county with contributing to the delinquency of a minor contrary to sec. 947.15 (1), Stats. On January 21, 1972, the county court of Douglas county, Hon. Henry N. Leveroos presiding, after preliminary examination of the McCredden type, found probable cause to believe petitioner had committed the crime charged. Pursuant to sec. 971.14 (2), Stats., the trial court thereupon ordered petitioner to submit to an examination in order to determine whether he was competent to stand trial. The examination was conducted on January 28th and February 2d by Dr. Jerome C. Vergamini, medical director and administrator of the Douglas county guidance center. Dr. Vergamini concluded that petitioner was suffering from "chronic paranoid schizophrenia" and questioned his ability to understand the proceedings against him.
